The Glenrothes Single Cask #2364 58.7% ABV (50ml)
Glenrothes Distillery was established in the narrow valley of the Rothes Burn on the west side of Rothes in the Speyside whiskey region by James Stuart & Co. in 1878. This is a large malt whiskey distillery owned by Berry Bros & Rudd of London, with eighteen washbacks, ten copper stills singing in their own mighty cathedral and has retained its traditional pagoda roof.
This 2000 Glenrothes is part of batch 1 of the distillery's UK Exclusive Single Cask series. Aged in a sherry butt for more than 16 years, this is rich, fruity, nutty and spicy. Limited edition of 575 bottles worldwide. From a single cask.
NOSE Butterscotch and oranges, with a spice mix but also sourish hints of raspberry and polished wood. Subtle caramelized nutty notes in the background.
PALATE Nice jammy fruits at its core (forest fruits, redcurrant, raspberry). Some citrus as well – moves towards the thinner / sour side of the spectrum. Ends on roasted nuts and burnt sugar. Wood spices: candied ginger and pepper.
FINISH Fairly long, drier, with ginger and a tannic edge.
