Midleton Irish Whiskey 40% ABV (50ml)
The Midleton Very Rare 2015, is a bottling brought out by the Midleton Distillery in Co.Cork. The 'Very Rare' range was launched in 1984 and the distillery has brought out a new vintage whiskey every year since then. Barry Crockett started off the 'Very Rare' range while he was the Master Distillery of Midleton Distillery, in 2013 Barry Crockett retired and Brian Nation took over the role. From 2014 on Brian Nation has been creating the 'Very Rare' range, maintaining its very high standard.
NOSE Lively, fruity and ester filled aromas on the nose. A second nosing reveals some spicy notes of clove, crystallised ginger, boiled sweets, candied orange peel, pineapple and dried apricots.
PALATE Powerful and assertive on the palate. A bit of a departure from previous bottlings. This is quite muscular and richly flavoured with perhaps a higher pot still content than before. Quite reminiscent of some of the recent virgin oak single cask editions. This begins with sweet, orange citrus and pineapple then quickly becomes quite peppery and spicy with flavours of cloves, ginger, cinnamon, vanilla.
FINISH Great length with the complex flavours continuing to evolve all the way to the finish.
